Atithi Devo Bhava!! No personal offenses, but I’ve really had some funny experienced with visitors who’re either uncomfortable, perplexed, or try to confuse me if not anything else!
Many people who visit with marketing proposals, so-called smart
(yet silly) business ideas, references from old-lost contacts looking for a
rental apartment, people who normally stop-by to scrounge for a desired plant
or fruits in our orchard, are so surprised when we serve tea to them. They’d normally
make a funny face looking at the tray with tea and some biscuits as if they’re
now trapped and will have to forcefully have tea though they were in no mood! They’ll
try to force their face to carve out some funny wrinkles as if having tea would
end their life, or beauty or whatever in the earth is most important to them. Come-on
guys, we’re pretty open-minded (lol) and can accept the simple ‘no, thank you’.
We also say that when we go to any private or public office when the manager wouldn’t
just let us go without a cup of tea. And we also say “wow, thanks”, and enjoy
the cuppa tea merrily with them. So what’s the big deal?
Some of them would readily accept the cup of tea, but oops!,
we only intend to give you the cup of tea, not the entire bowl of cookies,
please! You can have one though, and pick up another when you finish the one in
hand, why do you think we want to give all the cookies to you? This happens
when biscuits/cookies are kept on the tray along with tea and the visitor picks
up a cup of tea and grabs the bowl of biscuits instead of picking up a biscuit
from the bowl. This has been one of the most commonly occurring funny incidents
that happen around me. Probably, I need a biscuit pocket cup that's shown in the image, at least for the remaining people who can have, in any case, one biscuit each if not more!
That’s not all; many visitors are so pleased that they’ve
been served with tea irrespective of their purpose of visit that they keep
looking at the tea and your face and keep smiling all the way till the tea actually
turns cold like water!
Even funnier, some would keep showing their gratitude for
serving tea even after the tea has gone down their throats ages back! As if we haven’t
served them with tea, rather transferred our entire bank balance to them!
Unknown visitors are usually confused on how to react to gestures,
and generally turn out funny; this doesn’t mean we doesn’t love them, we really
do, as much as we enjoy being in your company. J
